How Does a Split System Air Conditioner Work?
As the name suggests, split system air conditioning is made up of two parts. The outdoor unit consists of a compressor, that moves refrigerant gas through a clever heating and cooling process that allows it to cool the air coming into the building.
Indoors, another unit sucks the air from the room and allows it to pass over the refrigerant coil, cooled by the air from the outdoor unit, before blowing it back into the room. The two units are connected by wires and pipes to allow the free flow of power and air throughout the system.
A split system can be adjusted using a remote control, and many new systems feature smart technology that allows you to adjust the temperature and airflow when you’re away from the building.

The indoor part of a split system is a simple wall-mounted unit. These are carefully designed to be unobtrusive and to blend with your interior.
